Mildred PHILLIPS Obituary
She was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and has been a resident of Hampton for more than 60 years.
After a 24 year career with the Hampton School System, she retired in 1983 as an Assistant Supervisor in the Food Service Department. She was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Hampton. A devoted wife, she participated in the Peninsula Camping Club, with her husband John, until his passing.
Preceding her in rest was her husband of 55 years, John R. Phillips.
Surviving members of her family include her children, C. Sue Phillips of Hampton, and Kenneth J. Phillips of Norway; grandchildren, Chelsea Shank and Anne-Grethe Phillips; and great-grandson, Nicholas.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and love to her special caregiver, Brenda Powell and her husband, Johnny, and also special thanks to the Sentara Hospice Team.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Sue and Ken,
Think back with me to the 1950's and our living in Idaho Falls. I remember your parents well and the good times we had when life seemed so simple then. It was a priviledge to know your parents. My Deepest Sympathy to your families.

Ken & Sue,
It saddens me to hear of your mothers passing. She was an important part of my life when I was a toddler. Some of my fondest memories are of our families sharring a beach cottage in Kitty Hawk during the summers a half a century ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
