Nancy ADAMS Obituary

NEW YORK - Nancy Huffman Adams (Granny) 98, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose compassion, strength, and faith touched so many lives was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010.
Nancy was born in Coalfield, Tenn., on July 2, 1912. She resided most of her life in Hampton, but McRoberts, Kentucky was always her real home. She worked at Welworth Cleaners for many years before retiring and was very active and faithful to her church East Hampton Baptist.
Her parents, John and Bessie Huffman; one child, Theresa Adams; her brother, John Huffman; and her sister, Lucille Fleming preceded her in death.
Nancy is survived by three children, Gary (Theresa) Adams of Hayes, Va., Roger (Angie) Adams of Easley, S.C., and Debbie (Bob) Bolick of Liverpool, N.Y.; sister, Betty Fern (James) Browning; brother, Billy (Betty) Huffman; sister-in-law, Wilma Huffman; eight grandchildren, Isaac, Jennifer, Jeremy, Joshua, Kendra, Logan, Owen, and Lyssa; and 12 great-grandchildren.
There are many family and friends whose lives she touched and she leaves an enduring legacy in her children, and in the loving memory of all who knew her. Mom especially loved her family and she will be always present in our hearts, long missed, never forgotten, and always cherished.
The family would like to express gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the staff at James Square Health Centre in Syracuse, N.Y., especially floor C-South for their comfort and kindness they showed our mother during her stay and at this most difficult time.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23669. A funeral service will begin 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Nancy's memory be made to your local your favorite charity or the Alzheimer's Association. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Debbie and Family:

We just recently learned of the heavenly homegoing of Nancy - I'm sure her and Mom (Maxine Morris) is up there now having a grand time and seeing who can talk the fastest. They certainly had some great times together. Nancy, was not only a dear friend to our mother, she was also a friend to all us kids. I can remember sitting in her kitchen and her cutting my hair even though she had worked all day and must have been exhausted she still kept that lovely smile shining and good spirits. May the precious memories of your wonderful Mom help you during this sad time. Marita (Morris) Rice

Mr. Adams, We did not have the pleasure of knowing your mother but from reading your group posts a mixture of everything from a character, jokester, but a person of heart and integrity she had to have been quite a woman. It hurt to see how much you loved her but I think she would have been proud of what you have become and the manner in which you act. It won’t mean much to anyone but you but she had flags both that striped banner and ours at half-mast at over 813 locations mostly across the Southron States but we managed to get some in Coalfield, Tn. , Whitesburg, Ky. and of course in Hampton Rhoads. You and your family remain in our hearts and prayers.

I remember Nancy from my Visits to West Hampton Baptist Church as one of the Vendors who serviced the Church, and Nancy was always an Inspiration as I had the opportunity to discuss my friends from West Hampton, when I lived in Copeland Park. My next door neighbors the Saunders, attended West Hampton Baptist for many years. My friends and I Used to walk back home together, as I attended the Methodist Church Next Door - So, after Church those Copeland Park friends and I would Walk Home together. With Nancy, I felt like that I could always find my youth in the stories of my friends from West Hampton. She was an excellent Church Secretary and a dear friend. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, but I will always have kind thoughts of her generous stories of my friends from West Hampton.

In the Bonds of Christ,

Bobby Edwards

Granny welcomed me into her home with open arms, as Issac's girlfriend. She always loved it when he came over for a visit! She was always busy doing something around the house or cooking for her boys. I remember she always made us mark our height & date on the wall (even me), Issac and her boys had been doing it for years. She always called Issac, Roger...I wish that Granny could've me her great grandson Noah James, but I'm sure that she is looking down on him from Heaven. We'll miss you Granny!! Love Susie & Noah

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Ms Nancy but I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all the family. There's a great deal of truth in the old saying that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. As a friend of Gary, I feel confident in saying that she was a wonderful, dedicated woman who was committed to the truth. My prayers are with each of you as her family.
