Nancy Staton Obituary

HAMPTON - Nancy Wright Staton, 54, a devoted wife, sister, and aunt, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Riverside Regional Hospital.
She was born in Athens, Ga., while her father, Dr. Robert Alan Wright was in Veterinary school. She grew up in Hampton where she displayed her kindness and love to help others. Nancy worked in the emergency room at Dixie Hospital, after becoming a Hampton High School alumnus in 1975. She entered into the internship of funeral service, and worked for area funeral homes prior to her enrollment in John Tyler Community College in the mortuary science degree program. Nancy graduated in 1979, and received her funeral service license later in the same year. In her 34 year career Nancy served many families and with her sincere kindness developed a personal connection with the community. In 1991 Nancy was appointed to the Virginia State Board of Funeral Directors by Governor Doug Wilder, and served until 1995. Nancy joined Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Parklawn Memorial Park in 2000 and was the founding general manager. Nancy's thoughtfulness was realized annually in a candlelight service, a special ceremony for family members to remember their loved ones. She also supported her community as a member in the Hampton's Women's Club, Hampton Baptist Church, and the P.O.E. Nancy's spare time went to her two Italian Greyhound's, Phoebie and Sophie. She loved the Beaches at Nags Head and her many visits to St. Maarten.
Nancy possessed sincerity and genuine qualities rarely found in the world today. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were not only found in her professional relationships but to her family and friends throughout the years. She will surely be missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Robert Alan Wright and her mother, Elinor Sparrer Wright.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 30 years, Ronnie Staton; her mom who she dearly loved, Dot Wright; sisters, Cheryl W. Morton and her husband, Kevin of Smithfield, Janis W. Thayer and her husband, Gary of Harrisburg, N.C., and Judith W. Mashburn of Hampton; brother, Michael J. Wright of Hampton; Ronnie's children, Tim Rue, Ted Scott, Brian Keith, and Kim Callaway; and nieces; Brandy R. Saul, Ashley N. Thayer, Meagan T. Thayer; and nephew, Jacob Mashburn.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday evening, Nov. 11, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Parklawn – Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2009, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Chester Brown presiding. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd. Suite A-102, Newport News, 23606.
Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave. in Hampton, 23666. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ronnie and Dot,

It is hard to find words to express how much this loss will effect us all. Nancy was truly a loving and wonderful lady. We will miss her so much!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me and let me go,
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears,
Be thankful for our beautiful years.
I gave to you my love and you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while for me if you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part,
I won’t be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call, and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way,
I’ll great you with a smile, and say
“WELCOME HOME”
Ronnie, Dot, Judy, Janice and Mike, my hearing of Nancy's passing just yesturday caught me by surprise. My deepest of sympathy goes to your family. Of the 40 some odd years I've known her, she always greated me with a smile on her face. The same smile she always had when I first met her, through your family back in the good ole days on Queen Street and at the Cottage in the summers. My heart is truly with you during this time.
I was so sorry to learn of Nancy's passing. I met her when my mother died 2 years ago. I will always remember her kindness during that time. Months later, she would call just to see how I was doing. Dr. Wright had been our family vet. Nancy was a kind, thoughtful person who touched so many people. Her time here was short, but her legacy was long. She will forever be remembered by so many for her thoughtful consideration and kindness. May her family and friends find comfort in the memories they share of Nancy in happier moments.
All the Lineberry girls (Kathy and Ann knew her well, and Denise can visit with her now any time she wants). I don't get to Hampton very often, but every time I drive by the curve on Queen Street, I remember the Wright family fondly. I'm sorry about the lateness of this message, but better late then never.
Dear Ronnie and the Wright family,
Nancy was a true friend. I know this because of how Cynthia always talked about her! She was truly one of a kind. The Fisher family thought the world of her, and oh how special she was!! There are too many memories to count, especially the Buckroe Beach days. I will never forget laughing so hard when I saw the Wrights on The Family Feud!! It is truly amazing how such memories and God's blessings help one get through difficult times. I can't imagine what you all are going through. Please know that the Fishers loved her, and I always thought of her as such a dear and sincere sweet person. I am sending you all my prayers to help life you up during your time of grief.
Both my brother Neil and I attended Hampton High with Nancy. She was a caring a sweet person then, and about a year and a half ago she greeted my father, Fred Ferrari, in Patrick Henry Mall with a smile and a hug following a surgery. It perked him up to have such a greeting. That was Nancy's way. Many benefitted from her warm smile and compassion.
God bless all of the Wrights and Statons.
