Robert FREDERICKSEN Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert A. Fredericksen, 72, of Newport News, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
A native of Iowa, he was a resident of Newport News for 38 years. He served his country for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army and also retired from AAFES after 26 years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 368.
PaPa loved nothing more than his family. He was the second son of Elmer and Velma Fredericksen, who preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Rosel; three devoted daughters, Linda Morris (Henry), Karen K. Sirk (Matt), both of Newport News, and Bobbie Gore of Yorktown; five adoring granddaughters, Tiffany Krapes (Mat) of Virginia Beach, Michelle Hicks (Jason) of San Diego, Calif., Angela Lee (Matt) of Newport News, Kristina Neuhart (Ryan) of Williamsburg, and Alicia Andrus (James) of Temple, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jemma Lee of Newport News, who were the lights of his life; three brothers, Art Fredericksen (Sandy), Donny Fredericksen (Mary), and Jerry Fredericksen (Lori); three sisters, Sarah Hellyer (Bill), Louella Hargens (Bill), all of Iowa, and Betty Riley (Lorenz) of Nebraska; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, followed by a memorial service, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, with burial in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Chaplain Nat Milton will officiate.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Drs. Hitchens, Asnar and Smuggler of the Hampton VA Medical Center; Drs. Goodman and Cortina, and staff of the Hampton VA Palliative Hospice Unit, for the special care they provided to our PaPa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Foundation for Parkinson's Disease, West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032.
Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, is handling the arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Mrs. Fredericksen and Family, I have just found out about the passing of PaPa Fredericksen. I loved him very much and always looked forward to seeing and talking with him. He was a kind and generous soul and he will be sorely missed. The world will be a sadder place without him but I will always hold tight to my memories of the short times we had together. I have many crafts that he gave to me and I will cherish them always. It helps to remember that he is in the arms of Jesus and that you will see him again. All my love and prayers, Donna Andrews (Mares Exterminating Co.)
