Robert PROCTOR Obituary

SMITHFIELD - Robert Gregory "Greg" Proctor, 40, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, after a courageous battle with diabetes since the age of five.
Born in Newport News, Va., Jan. 12, 1970, Greg was the son of Dewey E. and Grace Pulley Proctor. He was a lifelong resident of Smithfield. Greg was a 1988 graduate of Smithfield High School. With a passion for helping others, Greg was a life member of the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad and was a medic at Smithfield Foods for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Greg is survived by his daughter, Stacie Leigh Proctor; his sister, Marcella Murtha of Smithfield; and brother, Richard Proctor and his wife, Suzanne of Newport News; nieces, Elizabeth Rummage (Michael), Kimberly Porr; nephews, Daniel Murtha, Michael Rummage, and Stephen Porr (Danielle); and two great-nephews.
A service celebrating Greg's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Will Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Colonial Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Isle of Wight Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 88, Smithfield, VA 23431; or Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 301 Cedar St., Smithfield, VA 23430.

Greg was like a dad to me. He was always there for me and helped my family and I when we needed him. My mom loved him unconditionally and I'll miss him very much. He's going to be missed by so many people.

We have been blessed to be a part of Robert's life through his involvement with our Girl Scout Troop #482. Stacie has been an active member of the troop for many years and Robert has always participated with a giving and loving heart. He will be missed by so many.
