Robert SCHRADER Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Robert Schrader, born Sept. 5, 1954, of Williamsburg, formerly of Shawano, Wis., passed away on Wednesday August 11, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He successfully directed shows across the country both professionally and for various charitable organizations. His passion for theatre garnered many awards and accolades. Locally, you would have seen his work at the Kimball Theatre, in Merchants Square, and on the Williamsburg Players stage. His most recent work at The Players included the Sondheim musical, 'Company,' and his newly established production company, Showstoppers' first production of "In The Good Old Summertime," at the Kimball Theater.
Rob is survived by his good friend, Jeffrey Nicoloff and parents, Barbara and Walter Nicoloff; his mother, Ethel Schrader; his sister, Sherrill DePolis and husband. Steve. He is also survived by his brother, Jan Schrader and wife, Monika.
A private celebration of his life will be held.
Rob had a small army of people who dearly loved him. That is indeed a testament to his kind, loving, supportive, encouraging and generous nature. He inspired others to challenge themselves and strive for excellence. It was clear he had great artistic, creative and directorial talent as evidenced by seeing his productions and talking to those who worked with him. Rob not only inspired greatness, but also friendship and love. His gentleness and charming manner endeared him to all those who crossed his path.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Angels of Mercy Medical Clinic, 7151 Richmond Rd., Suite 401, Williamsburg, VA 23188; or Heritage Human Society, 430 Wallermill Rd., Williamsburg VA 23185.

I'm so glad Rob finally found a way to follow his bliss and ended his life having spent years directing and performing theatrical productions!! I knew him for many years in Shawano and Green Bay. We had great fun together--in addition to the local theatrical productions, we took disco lessons together, watched the Oscars every year at the store, made innumerable trips in that ancient powder blue van (known as that damn van)--and laughed A LOT. --Dawn (Reinhardt) Mahoney

I was in several shows with Rob and also was in the first one he ever directed. The show was Cactus Flower and he wrote a part for me to sing a cabaret club solo (Star!). We were great friends who loved to sing and dance together--often in his parent's living room.

We went to A Chorus Line together-the first time we each saw it. Enjoyed acting together in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and many others!

I've missed since we lost touch many years ago. I never knew where he went but have thought of him VERY often.

The world has been a better place with his gifts!

I will miss my hugs and kisses from Rob, but he will always be in my heart. He had such a way about him, that anyone meeting him found a friend. I pray for you all during this time. Reach out to others to remember how much Rob loved you and how much he was loved. Please get in touch if there is anything I can do. My blessings to you.

What a loss and a void that Robert's death caused...what a wonderful, caring, courageous person! I had the honor of meeting him only in the past few years but mourn his passing greatly! I can truly say that he made me want to be a better person! I know that he cared about his family and friends very much as he spoke of you all often. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you in this difficult time, and that he will never be forgotten!
