Ronald WILLIAMS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Ronald Carol Williams, 87, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, in Riverside Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born in Wenona, N.C., on Oct. 16, 1922, to Bertha and Ottis Walton Williams.
After moving to Virginia as a young man, he completed the Shipyard's Welding School and worked at the Baltimore Naval Yard and Philadelphia Naval Yard before serving in the Pacific with the U. S. Navy's Construction Battalion (SeaBees) as a 2nd Class Petty Officer during WWII. Upon returning home, he joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 540 and spent his life "fitting pipe" on the Peninsula: on the first Coleman Bridge, the Amoco Refinery, Surry Power Plant, First & Merchants Bank Bldg, Anheuser Busch Brewery and Busch Gardens, among many jobs. He said he loved his job and was proud of his work. He took up golf in his 50's and played until he fell ill to cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marguerite Bacon and Bea Seay; and four brothers, Walton, Bill, Mac and Charles Williams.
He is survived by his daughter, Louise Buttermore; his sister, Dorothy Barringer-Pemberton; nieces and nephews galore; and his Sweetheart, Doris Jones, and her family. A special thanks to his nephew, Rick Seay, and his wife, Donna, and his niece, Joyce Blymyer, for their care and concern during his final days.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Daniel Denham of Newport News Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park with military honors.
Remembrance donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606, or the charity of your choice. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
