HAMPTON - Russell E. Bradby (MSGT, U.S. Army, ret.), 93, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the home of his daughter, following a long illness.
Mr. Bradby was born on June 16, 1914, in King William County on the Pamunkey Indian Reservation to the late Jimmy and Elmira Bradby. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and was stationed in the Pacific. On Dec. 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Clara Ferguson in Hampton, who preceded him in death in 2003.

After retiring from the U.S. Army at Fort Monroe, he worked U.S. Civil Service at Fort Monroe, the City of Hampton Sheriff's Department and finally retired from the Hampton Coliseum. Hobbies included hunting and fishing, watching the Boston Red Sox and commiserating with the Fox Hill Men's Hardee's Breakfast Club, until his health prevented him from participating. He will be remembered by all who knew him by his kind and gentle spirit. He laughed easily and frowned seldom.

Our sincere sympathy in the passing of our Uncle Russell, the last of the Bradby's of that generation, brother of my mother Bernice who he now joins in Glory along with other siblings and parents. Heaven is rejoicing in his coming and is richer for his presence. We have fond memories of his visits to our home in Philly and of his laughter! We wished we could have been present for the tribute made to such a wonderful man, and will look forward to that day when we all will be reunited. Our love and sympathy to Linda, Brittany and Shaun, Pat and other family members. He was well loved and cared for over the years.
Sincerely,
Jean and Bob Gray

Russell was a good friend in my youth that taught me many lessons in life. When I first met (Brad) as we called him, I was a young man fresh out of the Marine Corps and working for the Hampton Sheriff's Department. Even though there was a major difference in our ages Brad and I really hit it off and became close friends. We went to many ball games together and even spent a long week end in Baltamore Camping while we watched the Fox Hill Softball team in the regionals. We had a wonderful time. Brad taught me so much in life, as far as raiseing my children, my relationship with God, and helping getting me off on the right foot in life. Brad used to say " Ed you know whats right and what is wrong. Its not hard to do what God exspects of you. I owe you a lot. For this is one young man who you had a major impact on and I have loved you through out the years . Thank you Russell Bradby. I know where you are today. May God be with your family in your passing as I know you are walking with God.
