Samuel OTEY Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel Otey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Penny Thacker Otey; children, Samuel E. Otey Jr. (Melinda), Brian K. Otey, Tammy O. Robbins (Billy); five grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, B.J., Wyatt Otey and Dylan Robbins, stepgrandchildren, Kayleigh and Devvin Tooley; step-great-grandchild, Dustin; brother, Herbert B. Otey (Dehlia); sisters, Hazel O. Fletcher (Charlie), Ethel O. Dunlap (Don), Frances O. Wallbank (Jim), Edith O. Deutsch (Joe), Gladys O. Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.
Sam was a self employed roofer who owned his own business. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, L&B Hunt Club and Diascund Hunt Club. He loved his family dearly and lived for hunting season. He will be greatly missed by his family who also loved him very much.
The family received friends from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., where a funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 24. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.

Sam was an amazing man he taught me so much. He was an amazing person.He is with the lord now and he is no longer suffering. I will truly miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family. I love you guys so much.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sambo was a great man and a dear friend to me. He taught me alot about hunting and how to run the deer dogs. You will be missed by many my "Little Buddy". May you rest in peace.

Sam & Melinda,
My heart goes out to you! I know how hard it is to lose someone to such a terrible disease, but to lose them on Fathers Day is no doubt even harder. Sam, your dad put up a heck of fight and in the end he did win. I pray that God gives you all the strength to get through the coming days, and If you ever need to talk or just a shoulder, I am here for you. Love you both and I'll see you tomorrow! God Bless
