Shirley SHEARS Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Shirley Kintzing Shears, age 87, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday morning, April 23, 2010, at the Morningside of Williamsburg Assisted Living Facility.
Mrs. Shears is survived by her husband, Robert P. Shears of Williamsburg; her son, Robert L. Hill of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and many other members of her family and friends.
Mrs. Shears was born in Belleville, N.J., and had been a resident of Williamsburg for many years. A graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in New York, Mrs. Shears built a successful career as an Executive Assistant and Administrator with law firms and private companies in the New York Metropolitan area, and later as an Administrator with the California Industrial Education Association and the Western Area Office of the Arthritis Foundation. Upon returning to her home state of New Jersey, she became the first Executive Director of the Monmouth County Voluntary Action Center in Red Bank, N.J.
Mrs. Shears spent many years as a devoted homemaker and mother to her three sons, two of whom, James and Steven, were preceded in death. She was an active, exemplary parent, devoting herself to raising her children and volunteering her time in a variety of ways to enhance her children's upbringing, from being a Cub Scouts Den Mother to spearheading the creation of a library at the Navesink Elementary School in New Jersey, where all three of her children were students. In her later years, Mrs. Shears shared her retirement with Bob, her loving husband of 23 years.
A memorial service for Mrs. Shears will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 1333 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. Arrangements are entrusted to Nelsen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks those wishing to express their sympathy to make a donation to the Shirley Kintzing Shears Memorial Fund benefiting the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
