Torsten STEINFATT Obituary

POWHATAN - Torsten Peter Steinfatt, age 42, died at home in Powhatan, Va., on Dec. 24, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 8, 1968, in Newport News, Va., Torsten had lived most of his life in various areas of Virginia, spending the past 16 years in Richmond. He spent the last 13 of those years changing the lives of seniors in Richmond, where he was the owner of Home Instead Senior Care, a non-medical provider of home care. Torsten will be especially remembered for his gentlemen like qualities and caring personality, along with his bright smile. His dedication to his family will always be remembered. He will be missed by all!
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Moats Steinfatt; and two children, Tyler (9) and Casie (7), also from Powhatan. He is also survived by his mother, Edith Steinfatt; and sister, Birgitt Thornhill, both from Virginia; and father, Pete Steinfatt from North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Avenue, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226; or the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation, 13323 California Street, Omaha, NE 68154.

Dear Teresa and the Steinfatt family,
I just found out about Torsten and I am very sorry for your loss.
I got to know him at St. Andrews from grades 2 thru 6. I still have the best memories of our times together...kickball at lunch, sleepovers, roller skating parties, and ski trips. I remember he could kick the ball the length of the playground and he always had that unmistakable grin as he cruzed into home plate. He was so much fun to be around and was kind to everyone. I am not surprised he chose a career where he could help people.
He was a special person. We are fortunate to have been touched by his personality and heart. My thoughts are with you, the children, and the rest of the family. Take care.

Sincerely~

Dear Teresa,
Torsten was a friend from early childhood as we were in grade school together at St. Andrew's Day School. I always considered Torsten as one of the nicest guys I knew and am sure he grew into the kindest husband and father to you and your children. We are blessed to have known him and may you and your family find comfort in knowing he is in Heaven and will always be watching over you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Teresa,
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Torsten was a wonderfully sweet and kind friend growing up, and I will never forget his perpetual smile and contagious chuckle. He brought light and laughter into every classroom he entered, and our class was a better class for having had him in it. He will certainly be missed by those of us whose lives he touched.

Words cannot express the loss of Torsten to you and this world. He was a precious man who I had the pleasure of knowing at HRA and would occasionally see in the years after. I was fortunate to be inlcuded in some "adventures" in HS and always remember the fun Torsten had. His constant positive attitude will always be remembered. Love to you all.

To Teresa and the entire Steinfatt Family: I was a childhood friend of Torsten's spending many, many weekend's together at the Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. Our families shared many wonderful times together. During these years, Torsten and I taught many young children how to ski. His infectous laugh and smile were enough to keep these children happy and coming back for more! I am deeply saddened by this news, and my heart goes out to your family during this difficult time.

Teresa, we are very sadden to know the cross you are bearing in Torsten's death.
To not only loose a loving husband but a devoted father.
The words from this song always helped us through the passing of our six year old nephew:
"Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on,
help me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn, through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light, take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home."
I learned that when we are in our deepest grief, when we feel farthest from God, this is when He is closest, and when
we are most open to His restoring power.
May your friends and family be your strength so you can be strong for your children.
May God's peace come upon you and your family now and always.
