Vance BRIGHT Obituary

PALMYRA - Vance Orpheus Bright Jr., 81, of Palmyra, died Saturday, May 15, 2010.
Born Jan. 19, 1929, in Morganton, N.C., he was the son of Vance O. and Isabelle Amelie Salvageot Bright.
A retired naval architect/engineer with the U.S. Department of the Navy, Mr. Bright was a 1952 graduate of the Newport News Apprentice School where he worked for 17 years. During his long career, Mr. Bright worked in the design and construction of several U.S. naval vessels including several aircraft carriers and the ocean liner "The United States".
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Girton Bright of Palmyra; two daughters, Cheryl Frances Bright of Falls Church, Va., and Mary Lynne Bright of Palmyra; one son, W. Edward Bright of Irvington, N.Y.; two brothers, Bill A. Bright of Valdese, N.C., and Edward B. Bright and his wife of Newport News; one sister, Nellena B. Thomas of Winston Salem, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Moochie, Terri and Buck, his furry companions.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 12, 2010, at Cunningham United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Va.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, Va., Caring for Creatures, Palmyra, Va., or to the Fluvanna SPCA.
