Vera COUNTRYMAN Obituary

HAMPTON - Vera Moore Countryman, a longtime resident of Hampton, passed away at her home on Monday, June 28, 2010.
Mrs. Countryman was born May 12, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Moore of Hampton, Va. She met her husband, Russell "Country" while his ship was stationed in Norfolk, Va., and after his military service, they married and settled in Hampton.
Mrs. Countryman was a loving mother and wife who stayed home to raise her two daughters. She had a tender heart towards everyone, including animals and especially the many stray animals, who knew just where to go for food. Mrs. Countryman was known for her loving kindness, her "get-up-and-go" attitude (even at 87) and how she always enjoyed new projects, especially home projects (the "ultimate do it yourself" HGTV type of person). She was so admired for her unbelievable strength, especially in a time of crisis. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God, Hampton, and then later became a member of Warwick Assembly of God, Hampton.
Mrs. Countryman is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sandra Countryman Cox and a son-in-law, David M. Hargis, who both passed away fall 2006; and her husband, Russell Countryman who passed away August 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Countryman Hargis; two sisters, Annie Mae Megilligan and her husband, George of Colorado and Jean Feller and her husband, Larry of Florida; a brother-in-law, Howard Countryman and his wife, Linda of Michigan; a granddaughter, Shanna Tatem, her husband, Rusty; and a grandson, William Hargis and his wife, Holley; five great-grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Tatem and Samantha, Elijah and Nathan Hargis; a son-in-law, David L. Cox; Joanna Marian Hargis; other family members and many, many friends. We, of course, cannot forget her faithful pal, her cat, Goldie, who will have a hard time adjusting. The family would also like to "thank" Mr. Emil Zintner, a neighbor/friend, for all the help and support he has provided to the family and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care.
Funeral arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Va.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Channel to Brazil for Christ, P.O. Box 804, Newport News, VA 23607.
The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship Saturday, July 3, 2010, between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Comfort Suites Airport (Hospitality Room) located at 12570 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Va. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Whew Mom, I can't believe you are gone. Dad died August 28th last year and now you this past June 28th. Life will never be the same without you all, but I know you are happy with Dad and in a wonderful place. I love you, Mom.

Linda and Family,
I was so surprised to hear of your mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed many wonderful times with your dad and mom when we would have lunch at Bojangles. You were truly blessed with wonderful parents - now they are together and will watch over your family. God bless you and your family at this sad time.

Cousin Linda
So sorry to hear that Aunt Vera has passed this world but comforted to know that she has now joined Uncle Russell in Heaven. I remember the fond times visiting with Vera and Russell when I lived in Virginia growing up. They were great people. I can still hear Vera's calm voice, she was special.

Linda, I am saddened to hear of your Mom's death. She and your Dad were special mentors and role models for me and the Gospel Tabernacle, First Assembly kids. Please accept sincere condolences, trusting that she is now in God's care.

Dear Linda,

It's been many, many years since we have seen each other. My mother, Tena Hensel was just asking about your mother not long ago.
Please know that we feel your pain yet rejoice with you that you know without a shadow of a doubt where your mother is spending eternity!
I want to also offer my condolences to you on the loss of Sandy, David and your dad. I did not know about their passing at that time. I'll always remember your family and your mother's sweet smile and your daddy's laughter.
Momma and I both will be praying for strength for you and the family as you go through yet another sorrow.

Dear Linda,

I'm so very sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Just think of the rejoicing on the other side as Aunt Vera joins those who have already gone. Doesn't it make you a little homesick?

Dear Linda,
No words can explain my feeling of loss for my dear sister and friend. As my older sister, she has always been a mentor and help since my earliest years. God bless you during this trying time.

Linda and the Countryman family: I am so sorry for your loss. Even before I saw the name, I knew she was Linda's mother when I saw her eyes...Linda received the genetic gift of beautiful eyes. Mothers are irreplaceable but remember the good memories and she'll live in your heart and life forever.

Deat Linda, I was very sorry to read of the loss of your mother. Please accept my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and take comfort in knowing that she is with our Heavenly Father, preparing a new home for all her loved ones.
I don't know if you remember me, but we go way back in time to the era of Youth for Christ in the 60's.
