Willard OWNBY Obituary

SMITHFIELD - Willard 'Bud' Ownby Jr., 69, passed away at home on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 surrounded by loved ones.
Mr. Ownby was born in Charleston, W.Va., and was a Virginia resident for 49 years. He was a member of the military police in the U.S. Army and later retired as a supervisor from Newport News Shipbuilding & DryDock, after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard B. Ownby; and his brother, David W. Ownby.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of over 50 years, Geraldine 'Gerrie' Ownby; his sons, Timothy Ownby (Gayle) of Hampton, and Richard Ownby of Smithfield; his daughter, Lori Ownby Dixon (Mark) of Stephens City, Va.; his grandchildren, Lauren Ownby Nash (Dan) of Hampton, Matt Ownby (Christina) of Hampton, Michael Ownby of Portsmouth, Jessica Ownby Davis of Portsmouth, Christopher Dixon of Arlington, and Daniel Dixon of Stephens City; his great-grandchild, Micah Ownby of Portsmouth; and his mother, Helen Ownby of Charleston, W.Va.
The family would like to give special thanks to Allison and Virginia of Sentara Obici, for their care and concern during Bud's illness.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Bud's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Dear Ownby Family,
I have many fond memories of wonderful meals and fellowship in your home that you bestowed upon me. I have a special place in my heart for you all. I am so sorry to hear about Bud, I knew Bud from the shipyard in the 80's and early 90's and he was so much fun and I remember how much he loved West
Virginia. Bud was a super guy to me.
