William BOERNER Obituary

HAMPTON - William F. "Bill" Boerner, died at the age of 85 on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, after a short illness.
Bill was born in Newport News but lived most of his life in the Wythe area of Hampton. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific Theatre with the 342nd Fighter Squadron and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After retiring from Newport News Shipbuilding as an electrician, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in his garden, playing the organ and riding his motorcycles. He was known by his neighbors as "Mr. Helper."
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Richardson and William F. "Bill" Boerner Sr.; and his brother, Robert "Bob" Boerner.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy McCarthy Boerner; his brother, John "Jack" Boerner and wife, Mary Caroline of Hampton; his sister-in-law, Sister Bessie McCarthy of Gastonia, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Harry McCarthy and wife, Leonor, Patrick "Butch" McCarthy of Newport News, and Edward "Skippy" McCarthy and wife, Louise of Plymouth, Minn.; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
A special thank you to the Riverside Hospice staff for their care.
The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Downtown Hampton on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Greenlawn Cemetery by the Rev. Msgr. Robert M. Perkins.

Jack and Mary Caroline,
I extend my sincere condolances to both of you. What a nice picture of Bill. He looks like he has so many things to say that would bring a smile.

Nancy, I saw a man on a bike last week and it reminded me of Bill. He was a friend from the 60's & 70's in the shipyard. It brought back a lot of good memories. My condolences.
