William STUPLES Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - William 'Bill' Grover Stuples Sr., age 76, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010.
Bill was a native of Waynesboro and had lived on the Peninsula since 1952. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Bill was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting. He was good with his hands and was a great 'handyman' who was willing to give free advice and time to help others fix things. Bill retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, in 1993, after 41 years of service as a general foreman in the X31 Electricians.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Stuples, one son, Tony Stuples (Wendy) of Newport News, six stepchildren including, Debbie Brindack (Bill) of Ohio, Bobbie Varner (Stephen) of Smithfield, Michael Ritchie of Newport News, Lisa Heller (Gary) of Ohio, Joseph Ritchie (Michelle) of Wisconsin, and Jason Zepernick of Chesapeake; one brother, Charlie Stuples of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Jamie Stuples of Newport News, and Laura Stuples of Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Triston, Makayla, Mariah, Macee; and adopted family and neighbor of 41 years, Bob and Shirley Perdue.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Stuples; one brother and four sisters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Tom Everett officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 69 Saunders Road, Newport News, VA 23601.

Tony, Jamie, Laura and children, I was so very sorry to hear about Bills passing. I just saw him a few weeks ago at Wal Mart. I am glad I did. I miss seeing him around when we all lived on the same street. He was such a wonderful man and I remember him always worked on cars for the family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Joann and Tony, as I have thought in the last couple of days about my many fonding memories, it carried me back to 1951. I have thought of all the great times we had togeather, all of the many places we got to see with each other. what great memories we were able to build.
