Dear Dad,
It has been a long year. There have been so many things that I have wanted to share with you. I know you have watched and helped me through my travels as always and I thank you. One ride for sure I know you were there was a trip to Norfolk not long after you were gone. I missed my exit and had no idea where I was going. I was worried I would miss my appointment, but something told me to keep driving and not to turn around. I came upon an exit and was moved to take it. As my drive continued every turn one after the other I felt closer and closer to you and my destination. You were there right beside me leading the way, and I thank you. You have always lead the way for me no matter if you were 400 miles away or beside me on the couch as you helped me to study for my ASVAB, and I thank you. I miss our talks about nothing and everything. I dream of you all the time and miss you so much. You are a wonderful farther and Poppy. My children love you so much and you loved them as well. They loved to be with you. To play, cook, carve pumpkins it didn’t matter. If you could see them now you would be so proud. Karli has grown into a beautiful little girl. Her spirit and strength are amazing and she talks about you often. I know she misses you. Nathaniel is strong and fierce. Just today he said that he missed you so much, and he wished you were here to take him fishing and hunting. You were his Poppy and he loved you dearly. He will never forget you. Riley is crazy and so full of laughter and what a personality. She can make anyone laugh in a heartbeat with one of her goofy faces or funny dances. She doesn’t remember you, but I will make sure she knows what a great Poppy you were. Dutch and I are doing well in New Mexico. You would be so proud of us. We finally have a house with enough room for all of us and, my kitchen is so big. It’s a dream come true. Just about every time I am in it I think about you. We never did make that grocery store run of 7 ingredients in a box for me to make a meal of. Surprising as it may sound I am coming along quite well with throwing things together to make a meal for my family. Thank you for coming into our family and becoming my Dad. You raised me to be strong, loving, and brave, and I thank you. I will love and miss you always your daughter Shanna.

Hey Shanna, pictures look great, have you seen grandma's Facebook? Dad's finals are this week so I think we're going on a date this weekend. Haven't done that in a while. Dug up 2 of my flower beds today and planted some pansies in 2 of my planters. They were only $3 each for 4" pots with 2 colors in each one. We started a fire when we were done, lookin good and I've been wanting to get out there in the dirt.

Nancy, Life as we know it is so very precious and fragile. Such a tragic loss can only begin to be explained by the vast "... random chaos in the universe..." I wish you strength to face the days ahead, and peace for your heavy heart. You and your's are not alone.

Durr Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I had not seen Bob in 20 years, but Bob and I were really good friends in High School, and lived together in DC for 6 months in 1989. Bob was always a tremendous amount of fun to be around, and we spent most weekends together in High school at one social gathering or another. Bob knew how to relax and have fun, and was was well liked by everyone in a wide group of friends. Camping trips to Laurel Highlands, Cheat Lake, WV were all part of the memories I have of Bob at his best, in the outdoors, making things work for everyone around him. I caught my first and only fish with Bob and his Dad. Bob was a tremendous baseball player, football player, and basketball player in his younger days, strong as an ox, tough as nails, and deceptively fast. You never wanted to bat against him in baseball, he scared the heck out of you. I'm so glad to hear he's had such an outstanding life with his family over the last 16 years, I know he will be missed by all. I'm sorry I could not make it down for the services. You are all in my prayers,
Steve DuMars

I am very sorry for your loss. I met Bob the last day of NCLEX review. A five-minute meet and greet conversation about school and work turned into a 30 minute talk about the amazing women in our lives (both RNs), and their influence on career choice. His facial expression, comfort level, and tone changed as soon as he mentioned his wife; it appeared that an overwhelming sense of joy took over as he continued talking about her. I feel for your family's loss, and pray for you all during this challenging event. Jay Rufi.

I remember meeting Bob in Dr Hyle's anatomy class at Thomas Nelson. We would joke about Dr. Hyle and his corky way of teaching the class. After Thomas Nelson I decided to go to MCI thinking I would be all alone. I walked into my very first class and there sat Bob. We both had a sigh of relief to know someone in the class. Bob was a very intelligent, funny, and always very reliable. You will be truly missed. My prayers are with you and your family.
