Nettie Bailey was my math teacher many years ago. She was kind, compassionate, understanding, funny, serious, patient, and immensely knowledgeable—hallmarks of a great teacher. She didn't command respect from students, they gave that willingly. She was an inspiration to me and helped to shape my eventual career. She is in my thoughts now because she always has been.

Vanessa,
I saw first hand the love you shared for your mother. You were dedicated to her needs and put aside your own. God tells us to "honor our mother and father". Be Blessed. I will continue to pray a prayer for peace for you and your family. God has each of you in his hand and peace is in the mist.

I regret being late signing the guest book for Mrs. Bailey. I met and got to know her during several trips with VMW Guided Tours. She was friendly, sincere and a kind hearted person. It was great to meet and travel with her because of her outgoing personality. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. I will remember her and the family in prayer during these difficult times. She is gone from all of us who knew her but not forgotten.

January 10, 2012

We met Nettie at the Hampton Jazz Festival a few years ago. Since then, Nettie was gracious enough to secure for us the best seats during Festival events. She usually seemed concerned if we were happy with our seats. She must have forgotten the 'nose-bleed' seats we were getting before! We love how Nettie sincerely cared, even though she was doing US a great favor. What a sweet lady!

We will continue to pray with the family during this difficult time.

Mrs. Bailey was truly a blessing to me. Now that she has gone home, I want to briefly how she impacted this father of three.

As an African American Student in the early 80's, I remember her kindness, quick wit and willingness to listen and provide guidance. Teaching Calculus she reinforced by her mere presence the fact that I too could get my bachelor's degree in Mathematics. She encouraged me to attend Morehouse College and 30 years later I have a son attending Morehouse. I am eternally grateful to Mrs. Bailey and I thank God for placing such an angel in my life, in Deer Park, NY. Be blessed in Jesus' name and rest in Peace Mrs. Bailey.

Eternally Grateful.

I had your mom as my math teacher in the mid 1970s at Deer Park HS. I was badly behaved in her class but she never stopped trying to get thru to me. And while I did not show her the proper respect at the time, I felt her support and a bit of Ms. Bailey always stayed with me. RIP

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Ms. Bailey (as I knew her).

I was a student at Deer Park High (Class '91) and while I was never fortunate enough to have Ms. Bailey as my teacher she did serve as my mentor. As one of the only African American teachers in the Deer Park School District in the late 80's and early 90's Ms. Bailey was an example of excellence for us to look up to. I remember going to her to discuss wanting to start a club/group for minorities at DPH and asked if she would be our adviser. Without hesitation she said yes and from there the African American Student Alliance was founded.

It wasn't until I read this Celebration of Life did I realize that not only was Ms. Bailey my mentor but she was also my sister (Delta Sigma Theta) as I am a member of Omega Psi Phi. Ms. Bailey you meant so much to so many especially me.

You will always be loved and missed.
