Ada Dabney Proffitt

Ada Dabney Proffitt, 93, formerly of Kents Store, died on Monday, April 19, 2010, at a local care facility.

She was born on April 24, 1916, in Fluvanna County, the daughter of the late Julious Dabney and Minnie Payne Dabney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Shandy Louis Proffitt; a daughter, Virginia P. Bickers; and a brother, Louis Dabney.

Ada was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Moose Lodge 1028.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mary P. Hackett of Troy and Minnie P. Gillispie and her husband, Charles, of Charlottesville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kate D. Harlow of Charlottesville and Mary D. Cheatham of Charlottesville.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Wissinger officiating. Interment will follow at the church yard.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
