Alvin Curtis Crawford Sr., 80, of Crozet, passed away at his home on Friday, November 16, 2012.

He was born in Charlottesville, October 25, 1932, the son of the late Thomas W. and Elsie Mae R. Crawford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma; and brothers, Walter, Leonard, Clifford, and David. Al was also preceded in death by his lifetime companion, Thada Quesenberry. Al is survived by his two sons, Alvin C. Crawford Jr. of Waynesboro, and Paul T. Crawford and his wife, Janet, of Palmyra; two granddaughters, Sarah Lamb and her husband, Jared, of Spring, Texas, and Casey Crawford of Palmyra; two great-grandsons, Conan Lamb and Adam Lamb of Spring, Texas; his former wife, Ramona Chapman; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Al was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Navy. After his military service, he was employed as manager of Western Union in downtown Charlottesville. He later retired from the University of Virginia Police Department where he worked for 22 years as a police officer. After retirement, he served as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff with the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office.

Al will be remembered by his family and friends as an extremely generous, giving man. Always ready to lend a hand, offer assistance, and reach out to anyone in need. He made a friend of everyone he met.

The family will receive friends at Teague Funeral Home from 6 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

A private family ceremony will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932. Friends may sign the guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.

God gives us but one life to live. Despite Al's own illness, Al chose to live his life with a kind, loving heart and spirit positively affecting the lives of his family, friends, and those who crossed his path. God will surely welcome this wonderful man into His loving arms. Al had the most giving spit always thinking of others. We are blessed to have known him.

His body may be gone, but he will always be with us. He is free from pain and suffering.

Remember as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

We loved Al very much. He always treated us like his family. He will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness, kindness, sharp wit and for his fantastic christmas parties. We enjoyed many get-togethers with Al and Thada and their families. He loved his family, as they dearly loved him. Love to all.
