Anne Oprandy Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on May 11, 2010.

Anne Marie Oprandy

Anne Marie Oprandy went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010. She was 92 years old.

She was born August 26, 1917, in New York City, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary Lione. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Peter S. Oprandy. Also preceding her in death were her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Russell Smeltzer; brothers, Paul Lione and Anthony Lione; and a sister, Rachel Lione Castellini.

Anne's life was a labor of love. Her fabulous Sunday dinners "in the country" will always be remembered by younger family members and friends. Perhaps her greatest gift was the special time and attention she showered upon her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in the world to her and she made it a point to keep abreast of all important family functions. Her memory will spark joy in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Anne leaves to cherish her memory a beloved daughter, Theresa, and her husband, Dominick Bruno; her loving son, Peter and his wife, Barbara Oprandy; nine grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to the thoughtful and caring physicians she worked with throughout the years, Dr. Dominic Cappelleri, Dr. Richard Stewart and Dr. David Chesler. A special thanks to the staff and residents of Our Lady of Peace who walked with her for her last seven years, and especially to Ellen and Grace who knew how to make her laugh. Dr. Timothy Short and the compassionate nurses of Hospice of the Piedmont provided her final care, for which we are extremely grateful.

In Virginia, the family will receive friends at Teague Funeral Home at 2260 Ivy Road from 6:30 until 8:30 Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

In New Jersey, the family will receive friends at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive in Tenafly from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010.

A funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Ashley Harrington, a dear family friend, 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tenafly. Interment will immediately follow the ceremony at Mt. Carmel cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's honor to Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad or to the charity of your choice.
