Anne Oprandy Obituary

Tenafly, NJ

Anne Marie Oprandy went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010. She was 92 years old.

Born August 26, 1917 in New York City, she was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary Lione. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Peter S. Oprandy. Also preceding her in death were her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Russell Smeltzer; brothers, Paul Lione and Anthony Lione; and a sister, Rachel Lione Castellini.

Anne's life was a labor of love. Her fabulous Sunday dinners "in the country" will always be remembered by younger family members and friends. Perhaps her greatest gift was the special time and attention she showered upon her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her and she made it a point to keep abreast of all important family functions. Her memory will spark joy in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Anne leaves to cherish her memory a beloved daughter, Theresa and her husband, Dominick Bruno; her loving son, Peter and his wife, Barbara Oprandy; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to the thoughtful and caring physicians she worked with throughout the years: Dr. Dominic Cappelleri, Dr. Richard Stewart and Dr. David Chesler. Special thanks to the staff and residents of Our Lady of Peace who walked with her for her last seven years, and especially to Ellen and Grace who knew how to make her laugh. Dr. Timothy Short and the compassionate nurses of Hospice of the Piedmont provided her final care, for which we are extremely grateful.

Friends may call at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, NJ on Thursday, May 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Ashley Harrington, a dear family friend, on Friday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Tenafly, NJ. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's honor to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911; Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, 828 McIntire Rd., Charlottesville, VA 22902; or to a charity of your choice.
