Belvin "Jack" Earnest White

Belvin "Jack" Earnest White, 91, of Halifax, Virginia, formally a longtime resident of Charlottesville, died Saturday, November 21, 2009.

He was born in Nelson County on October 18, 1918, to the late Henry J. White and the late Susie R. Morris White.

He was retired from Southern Railroad after 38 years of service, served in the Army during World War II and was a life-long member of Belmont Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Irvin White.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Ashley White of Halifax; a son, Jack B. White of Halifax; a sister, Gertrude Beverly of Ruckersville; three grandchildren, Jared A. White and his wife, Carrie, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cooper D. White of Charlottesville, and Ashley E. White of Richmond; and one great-grandchild, Jenna L. White of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Teague Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery
