Carol Jones Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13, 2009.

Carol Benson Jones

Carol Benson Jones, 73, of North Garden, Virginia, died on Sunday, December 6, 2009.

Her father, Nelson Levi Benson; her brother, Ralph Benson; and her mother, Hattie Morrow Benson, preceded her in death.

Carol was born in Altus, Oklahoma, and spent her childhood and adolescence in Corsicana, Texas, and Tyler, Texas. She graduated from La Marque High School in La Marque, Texas.

Carol completed nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas and became a Registered Nurse. Her professional life included practicing in the operating room, a private specialty office, a family practice clinic, and in providing end of life care.

Carol created beauty in her music, home, and garden. She was drawn to sincere people from all walks of life. She shared her passion for living with family and friends through books, music, plants and the love of animals. Carol believed in living lightly on this earth and found joy in the smallest pleasures.

Carol is survived by her husband of 51 years, Rayford Scott Jones; a son, Scott Wayne Jones of Akron, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Jonathan Marx of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Holly and James Drougas of Roanoke, Virginia; and four grandsons, Gregory Scott Marx, David Benson Marx, William Scott Drougas, and Michael John Drougas.

The family has spread her ashes on the land that she loved. A service celebrating her life will be held in the spring.

Memorials can be made to Charlottesville Free Clinic, 1138 Rose Hill Drive, Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22903, or Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Scott, we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful wife and our very special friend, Carol. It was a shock to hear such unexpected news and we feel for you so very much at this time. During our days in the United States, Carol was an inspiration to us, and others, with her music, which will always live on. She was a beautiful person.
