Mary Nasevich Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 25, 2025.
Mary Katherine Nasevich, age 63, passed away in her home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

She was born in St. Charles, Missouri in 1962 to Kenneth V. and Alice M. Rothermich. Mary attended Duchesne High School before studying biology at Southeast Missouri State University where she was also one of the few female ROTC cadets and achieved a leadership role in her cadet class. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, she joined the United States Air Force in the space command and achieved the rank of captain prior to her honorable discharge. Then, she went on to work as a financial analyst at SNL Financial and a Certified EKG monitor technician at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Mary Kay was a smart, kind, and generous woman. She had a strong desire to help others; counting money for her church, volunteering to pick up shifts for others at work and regularly donating blood. An animal lover, Mary Kay also volunteered with the Charlottesville SPCA, proudly telling her children when the dogs she fostered were adopted. She would call her children's pets her "grand puppies" and "grand kitties" and always kept treats or toys in her house for them. She was an avid reader of the news and follower of pop culture, which in addition to her book smarts guaranteed her a trivia win anytime she played. Researching the best products was also a serious pastime and she was always finding the best products and gifts. Mary Kay loved a good house hunt, attending Charlottesville's Parade of Homes most years with her best friend Angela. She loved pop culture and political satire. Some of her children's fondest memories will be of taking her to see the play Hamilton and seeing John Stewart perform live. Mary Kay was a great listener, always available to lend an ear and calling her family near and far weekly for updates, always sharing news between them. Her family was fortunate to have spent time with Mary Kay twice in Missouri in the past year, once for her mother Alice's 85th birthday celebration and once for her own birthday where she saw the Saint Louis Zoo lights with her sisters and mother. She loved the holiday season and looked forward to Christmas traditions of making cinnamon buns, bagel bites, quiche and playing fiercely competitive games of Harry Potter Uno with her children. Her children were fortunate enough to live near to her in recent years being able to take her to the Charlottesville farmer's market, shopping downtown, watching polo at King Family Winery, or visiting new restaurants. She enjoyed comedy and would watch Netflix specials, joking with her family about them until everyone was laughing and out of breath. She would laugh and blush easily and had one terrible dance move that she would swear it was not hers. Being an initially reserved person, too few people were lucky enough to get to know how truly amazing she was. She will be greatly missed by those who did.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth V. Rothermich and brother, Charles "Chuck" V. Rothermich. She will be missed greatly by her children, Michael (Jena) Nasevich and Tasha (Kirk) Nasevich; mother, Alice Rothermich; siblings, Diane (Jeffrey) Brouk, and Kristin (Tim) Foley; along with many nephews and nieces and extended family who loved her dearly.

Her children will hold a celebration of life visitation on Sunday, December 7, from 11 am to 1 pm, at Hill & Wood Funeral Service in Charlottesville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charlottesville SPCA, an organization that Mary supported and volunteered through.
