Carrie Jordan Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Jan. 16 to Jan. 17, 2010.

Carrie Edwards Jordan

Mrs. Carrie Edwards Jordan, 73, of Norfolk, peacefully departed this life in her sleep Sunday, December 13, 2009, at her home, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Jordan was born in 1936 in Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, the daughter of the late William Lee & Blanche Picott Edwards.

She was predeceased by a brother, Steve Edwards; and a sister, Virginia Edwards; and her former husband, Ervin L. Jordan Sr.

Mrs. Jordan was a retired employee of several Norfolk families. She was grateful to God for having attained and surpassed the biblical allotment of a person's life ("The days of our years are threescore years and ten . . . for it is soon cut off, and we fly away" Psalm 90:10). She enjoyed mall walking, shopping, and the love of and visits by her three children during her more than 50 years of motherhood.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Patricia Benjamin of Norfolk; two sons, Professor Ervin L. Jordan Jr. (Lorraine) of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia, and Robert E. Jordan of Fairfax, (retired, United States Army); her sisters, Dorothy P. Edwards and Anne B. Allen of New Jersey; a brother, William Herbert Edwards of Norfolk; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. "Love Does Not End With Death."

After a funeral service Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, Mrs. Jordan was interred in Norfolk's Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Dear Mom:
You've been gone a month. I love and miss you. Christmas was not the same without you. I am brokenhearted and my spirit is weary but I know you are at peace in Heaven. The bond between a mother and her son, especially her firstborn child, can never be broken. Love Does Not End With Death.
Your grieving son,
Ervin
