Christine Cooke Obituary

Christine Ann Cooke

A Host of Angels rejoiced when Christine Ann Cooke, 73, of Louisa, Virginia, completed her faithful service on this earth 11:15 a.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Envoy At The Meadows in Goochland, Virginia.

Christine, born January 13, 1936, in Washington, D.C., is the daughter of the late George and Theresa Hawkins.

Christine leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 51 years, Stuart W. Cooke, Retired CMSGT USAF, of Louisa, Virginia; four children, Mary Washington and her husband, Ernest, Denise Taliaferro and her husband, Marvin, of all of Atlanta, Georgia, Stuart Cooke Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Hampton, Virginia, and Barbara Dauphin and her husband, Ronald, of Bowie, Maryland; 12 sisters and brothers, six sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. Christine dearly loved her 10 grandchildren who were the joy and pride of her life, Olivia (14) and Jordan (8) Washington; Myron (24) and Marvin Jr. Taliaferro; Niesha, Dakari and Keyana Cooke; and Dominique, Gabrielle and Zachary Dauphin.

Christine was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church, served as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Woman's Guild. She also was a faithful and cheerful worker who served the Lord through her relentless hours of community work as close as Louisa County, Virginia, and as far away as Saudi Arabia, Spain and Europe. She was a recognized speaker, community organizer, teacher, life coach, campaigner, church servant and is known by her friends, family, clients, and partners as the internet diva for her brand of "techno-connecting" through webpages, e-mail, Facebook, ISeeColor and Twitter accounts all at the age of 73. In addition, she also served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Board member, and committee member and volunteer extraordinaire on numerous local, national and international organizations including NAACP, AARP, political campaigns, housing boards, and Crime Solvers to mention a few. Christine received the prestigious John O. von Hemert Volunteer Spirit Award for her relentless efforts to improve the lives of those in her community and abroad.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A wake will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Thomasson Watson Funeral Services Inc., 117 West Street, Louisa, VA 23093, 540-967-1890.

The family request that all reflections, prayers, comments and well wishes be conveyed during the wake instead of at the funeral.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 1937 Davis Highway, Mineral, VA 23117, 540-894-4266, with the Reverend Michael Duffy, Pastor, officiating. Burial will immediately follow services at the Cooke family cemetery, 1525 West Old Mountain Road, Louisa, VA 23093.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Louisa Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 1445 East Rio Rd, Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Thomasson Watson Funeral Service Inc. of Louisa, Virginia is handling the arrangements.
