Clarice D. Tornatore

Clarice Dillon Tornatore, 93, of Charlottesville, departed her earthly life on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, on Peace Day at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

She was born on February 14, 1917, "a very special Valentine" in Rich Creek, Virginia, the daughter of the late Estel Davis and Adeline Davis.

She was preceded in death by Richard Dillon the father of her children; and her second husband, John Tornatore II; a son-in-law, Richard Mills; and a grandson, Michael Mills.

She is survived by her five children, Patricia Breeding and her husband, Bernard, of Earlysville, Janice Evans and her husband, Terry, of Bristol, Tennessee, Nedra Mills of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Bill Dillon and his wife, Debra, of Charlottesville and Gary Dillon of Charlottesville; two stepchildren, Skippy Tornatore of Charlottesville and Tina Davis of Clearwater, Florida. She was a proud grandmother and is survived by nine grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Tornatore lived for many years at Woods Edge where she enjoyed a very active life style with her many friends. She was known as the "Queen of the Jigsaw Puzzles" that were displayed for others to enjoy.

The family thanks Dr. Clairborne Whitworth of Urological Associates and Dr. Mark Mandichak for the special attention and medical care.

A special thanks to Mrs. Fannie Hicks of Woods Edge who we considered to be our Mom's "special guardian angel" and to all of her friends that she enjoyed much of her life.

The last year of her life, Mrs. Tornatore lived with her son, Gary who provided her with health care and lots of love.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date in her home town of Rich Creek, Virginia.

Friends may send condolences to the family at www.hillandwood.com.

Janice--Although our lives have gone in different directions, I'll always have fond memories of the times I was in your Mom's company. I know how much she meant to you and just wanted you to know you're in my thoughts during this time. My Mom turned 90 this year. It's hard to believe the years that have passed since our paths crossed.

Our deepest sympathy to all in the great loss of mother and friend. It was of great pleasure always, in sharing in fond memories and hearing great stories of family and grandchildren, who each one meant the world to her. Her friendships and kindness and; especially to her neighbors and friends at Woods Edge, will be remembered and not forgotten by many.

In her 94 years, she touched the lives of many and we are blessed to be a part of those years!

Our love and deepest sympathy,
Skip and Nadine Tornatore & family

As a young child, 50 years ago, My Father would tell us "this is your Aunt Clarice" She was my Aunt Helen's best friend, they travelled the world together! Many years later, I was there when she really became my Aunt by marrying Uncle John. Many wonderful memories of Market Street, the 2 homes "up the hill", the trains, Helen and John's Store. Now they are all together and we have the cherished memories! Sending our love, Sammy and Theresa's son John.
