Dena Lee

Townes Willcox

Dena Lee Townes Willcox, 64, of Syria, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010.

She was born on November 9, 1945, in Petersburg, Virginia, the only child of the late Marvin Lee Willcox and Dena Lee Willcox. Dee was a retired painter and tractor-trailer driver. Among some of Dee's accomplishments were the Design, Layout and Composition in the book "Madison County Homes, A Collection of Pre-Civil War Homes and Family Heritages" and she designed the Madison County sticker used for over 30 years.

Survivors include her son Hamilton McCarthy Dean II "Mac Dean" of Syria, Virginia; and daughter, Betsy Seawell of Nags Head, North Carolina. She was the grandmother of William McCarthy Dean (Mac), Zachary Keith Dean (Mac), Dori Darranti (Betsy) Elise Seawell (Betsy).

Dee is survived by numerous amounts of friends, many that she's been close to for years upon years.

Her beloved Face Kitty and dog, Foots, also survive her.

She embraced and cherished the mountain she called home. Dee touched the lives of many; she shared her heart and home with friends throughout her life. If a friend needed a place to stay or help in any way, Dee was always there and willing to help anybody that needed help.

A service will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Preddy's Funeral Home in Madison, Virginia with the Reverend James officiating.

A "Celebration of Life Party" will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at her home in Meadows Hollow in Syria Virginia, with the Reverend Chilly Raiford. Friends will also share stories in celebration of Dee's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations accepted and will be much appreciated. Thank you very much from family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dee's family at this time. I grew up with Dee in Petersburg, VA and spent many a night with her at slumber parties and many wonderful hours riding bikes, etc. She was a wonderful friend and I will always cherish the memories of our childhood. I saw Dee at one of our class reunions years ago and we talked for hours. I was so impressed by her ability to do what she wanted to do in life despite what others thought she should do. I told her how much I respected her. May Dee look over all of us until we join her in heaven.

Dee Dee was part of my childhood in Petersburg, VA. My family moved there when I was in third grade. Dee Dee's talents were outstanding even then, for she was the one chosen by our teacher to play the piano whenever songs were to be sung. Not only did she have musical talent that she shared, but her art work was amazing. She was much better than Mrs. Musgrove, our only art teacher throughout Jr. High and High School!... yes, we were so fortunate to have her work gracing the pages of our Senior Yearbook!
I'm so sorry I missed knowing Dee Dee and her family in my adult life.
Peace be with you all.

I first met Dee when she was my boss one summer. She pulled up in her jeep and I thought "this might be fun after all". It was. Many years and many good times.

I have not seen Dee in many, many years, but I can remember when she was once a part of our family. I have fond memories of her and Mac Dean at my house often. She was an awesome person with a heart full of love for many. I am sure she will be sorely missed!

Dee will be greatly missed by soo many-I have more memories with Dee than I can begin to list and what sweet memories they are. I remember she made the best sausage gravy in the world and without her I wouldn't have gotten my first car-
Dee....I will miss you until I see you again!
