Dorothy Stone Obituary

Dorothy Theresa Stone

Dorothy Theresa Stone, 79, of Lake Monticello, died on Monday May 24, 2010, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dorothy "Dottie" was born on February 20, 1931, in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Clyde and Martha Brill Marshall. She was the widow of Paul Thomas Stone, loving husband and devoted father, who predeceased her by a mere four months.

Dorothy and Paul were married on October 27, 1950, at Mount Ranier, Maryland's St. James Parish, and enjoyed almost 60 years of a loving, faithful union of marriage. Although Dottie worked briefly as a PBX operator and at various jobs throughout their marriage, she was at her happiest in her roles as loving wife, mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Robin Stone and Mark Luensmann of Manchester, Iowa and Kimberly Kincaid of McConnelsville, Ohio; a son, Lee Stone of Lake Monticello; five grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel and Kathryn Mitchell of Manchester, Iowa, and Emilee and Aimee Kincaid of McConnelsville, Ohio. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, John and Karen Marshall of Cave Creek, Arizona; and a sister, Peggy Cope and her husband, Jack, of San Diego, California; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great- nephews.

While Dottie willingly devoted nearly all her time to her children's and husband's health and well-being, she also found time for birdwatching (especially humming birds), flower arranging and tending her beautiful houseplants, interior decorating, yellow roses and enjoyed entertainers Eddie Arnold, Johnny Cash and Gene Autrey.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 11 a.m. Thursday May 27, 2010, with Father Alan Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery at 2 p.m.

There will be no formal visitation.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities, American Cancer Society, 1445 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or National Alzheimer's Association.
