Dr. Eugene Henry Dustman

Dr. Eugene Henry Dustman, 91, of Fork Union, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born May 5, 1917, in Ohio, the son of the late Henry and Emma Hallett Dustman.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Wayne Thomas Dustman.

Dr. Dustman graduated from Ohio State University in 1941; received his Master of Science Degree in 1943 and his PhD. in 1948, after serving in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1943 until 1946. He was the leader of the Ohio Coop. Wildlife Research Unit at Ohio State University from 1950 until 1959; served as a director of the Pautuxent Wildlife Research Center in Laurel, Maryland from 1963 until 1972. He retired from the United States Department of Interior in 1972.

He was the beloved husband of Jean Walters Dustman for 68 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Dustman Baden and her husband, Robert, of Fork Union; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, including Michael, Alica and Beau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fluvanna County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 96, Palmyra, VA 22963.
