Everett Buck Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Apr. 22 to Apr. 23, 2010.

Everett Randolph "Bill" Buck

Some of us knew him by the name Bill, others knew him by the name Buck, his grandkids called him Pop-Pop, and his daughters called him Dad. Dad was blessed with 85 years on this glorious Earth. On Tuesday, April 20, 2010, he departed this earth for his new heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born on February 3, 1925, to Hilda and Theodore Buck. Bill was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Floyd, Theodore, Charles, Carlyle, and Sylvia "Polly".

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Lottie Marshall Buck. Also left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Kim Wright and her husband, John; his daughter, Kay Held and her husband, Jim; his daughter, Candace Cooper and her husband, John; and his daughter, Cynthia Herbst. His life also continues through his seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dad grew up during difficult times including the Great Depression but some of his escapades indicate that even with times tough, he could find a way to have a good time with friends. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Navy, owned an Esso station on Vinegar Hill, worked across several life insurance companies and retired from Southwestern Life as a leading agent. After retiring, he returned to work at Martha Jefferson Hospital, serving in several different capacities. There were no strangers in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area to Bill. His devoted service to the Lord included Prison and Nursing Home ministry/communion, spreading of the Word as a Gideon and as a Deacon Emeritus at Cherry Avenue Christian Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, 201 North First Street, Charlottesville, Virginia.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Cherry Avenue Christian Church, 1720 Cherry Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia, with burial following at Holly Memorial Garden on 29 North.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cherry Avenue Christian Church.

Friends may send condolences to the family at www.hillandwood.com.

What a great man, I remember him coming to my house to collect insurance payments, I would have been around 6 or 7 and I am now 45 and a few years ago I saw him working at Martha Jefferson and he still remembered my name, after all these years. He always had a smile on his face and would always ask me how my dad was doing. Once again a great man
