Florence Elizabeth Childress

On Monday, March 29, 2010, at 11:20 p.m., Miss Florence Elizabeth Childress passed away. She was the daughter of Fred Reynolds and Lutie Monroe.

She was born on May 27, 1910, in Poughkeepsie, New York, and raised in Blenheim, Virginia, by Harriett Monroe, her maternal grandmother.

She lived most of her life in Poughkeepsie, New York, was self-educated and retired from Hudson River State Hospital. She was blessed with an endless reservoir of determination.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Delores Childress of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her life was shared with three siblings, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and several cousins.

The family would like to acknowledge a caring friend, Mary Souser and a loving cousin, Sharon Brown.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 4, 2010, in Gretna, Florida.
