Florene Harlow

Florene Harlow, 86, of Crozet, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at Mountainside Senior Living.

She was born April 5, 1923, in Toccoa, Georgia, the daughter of the late Enoch Hosea and Myrtle Davis Hosea. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Harlow and 12 siblings.

Mrs. Harlow was the wife of an Airborne Jump Master with whom she had travelled around the world and had lived in Germany and Japan. During these years she managed several child care nurseries on various Army Bases, which included Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Bad Kreuznach, Germany. She worked as a clerk at J.C. Penney for many years and was a Sunday school teacher at her church in Columbus, Georgia. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Charlottesville.

Surviving her are three daughters, Sonja Harlow Cohen and her husband, Steve, of San Diego, California, Loretta Cronk and her husband, Mike, of Charlottesville and Joyce Baker and her husband, Jim, of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Anne, Laura and her husband, Tony, Rebecca and her husband, Ryan, Carl, Jennifer and her former husband, Blake, Sarah and her friend, Aaron, and Jeff; a step-grandson, Andrew; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Deal of Gainesville, Georgia, and Sue Means of Anderson, South Carolina; and many special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Dr. Lindsay Sadler officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

The family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to a Hospice of your choice.
