Gladys Oberlin Pugh Lang

Gladys Oberlin Pugh Lang, 92, former resident of Rosewood Village Assisted Living, Greenbrier, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

She was born in Covesville, Virginia, on January 25, 1918, to the late Ross and Carrie Mawyer Pugh. She was also predeceased by her husband, Raymond P. Lang; one brother, Percy C. Pugh; and five sisters, Ida Johnson, Ruby Wilson, Agnes Bibb, Dorothy Eheart and Ora Mundy.

Her survivors include daughters, Judy Scruggs and her husband, Randy, of Charlottesville, Peggy Howdyshell and her husband, Larry, of Salem, Virginia, and Vicki Miller and her husband, Brian, of Charlottesville. Other survivors are two granddaughters, Elizabeth Rowlett and her husband, Taylor, of North Charleston, South Carolina, and Andrea Kreskowski and her husband, Mark, of Salem, Virginia. She leaves also, her beloved great-grandchildren, Kaela and Harrison Rowlett of North Charleston, South Carolina. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Gladys Scruggs and her husband, Earl, of Charlottesville; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Of all the things in her life, most important were her faith and her family. She was a member of University Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She loved gardening, and in her early years, she was gifted in sewing, flower-arranging and decorating wedding cakes. She was easily recognized by others because of her matching outfits, always accented with colorful jewelry.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at University Baptist Church with Doctor Tom Leland officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Rosewood Village for their loving care and attention for the last 18 months.

Contributions in her honor may be made to University Baptist Church, 1223 West Main Street, Charlottesville, VA, 22903.

Peggy,
Jackie, Richard and I were very saddended at church yesterday to hear about the loss of your mom. You and Larry are in our thoughts and prayers. A scripture verse that brought comfort to me when my dad passed away was 2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" I pray that it will bring comfort to you also...
