Hattie Jean Fix, 82, of Waynesboro, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

She was born October 6, 1927, in Augusta County, a daughter of Lynn and Leta Lair Kyle.

She was a member of the Waynesboro Free Methodist Church and the A.A.R.P. She was retired from Con-Agra.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Lynn Kyle.

Surviving are her husband, Joe M. Fix; a son, Rodney Lawrence Smiley and his wife, Lori, of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Smiley; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Kyle; a niece, Debbie Murtdock and her husband, Steve, and their children, Pat and Thomas; and a very special friend, Tiffany Campbell.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2009, at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, by the Reverend David Kurtz and the Reverend Keith Hulton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Floyd, Nelson Frazier, Robert Gibson, David Saben, Jeff Walter, and Henry Wingfield.

There will be no formal receiving of friends.

The family requests no public viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 530 East Main Street, Richmond, VA 23219, or the American Lung Association, 39 South Gate Court, Suite 102, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
