Henry H. Shifflett
Henry H. Shifflett, 80, of Dyke, departed this life Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Linda Faye, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 23, 1929, in Greene County, the son of the late Gilbert B. and Nellie Morris Shifflett.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Fannie Mae Shifflett; one daughter, Jeannie Mae; an infant brother, Roy Mason; an infant sister, Fannie Mae; two sisters, Addie F. Knight and Cynthia V. Shifflett; a foster sister, Addie Shifflett; a foster brother, Elbert Earl Morris.
Henry retired with 44 years of service from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a bridge mason. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and the outdoors.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Faye Shifflett and her partner, Gregory Shiflett, of Stanardsville; three sons, Nelson M. Shifflett and his wife, Patricia, of Palmyra, Ronnie M. Shifflett and his wife, Linda, of Keswick and C. Tony Shifflett and his wife, Robbin of Troy; six grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren.
He is survived by a brother, Fred N. Shifflett of Dyke; a foster brother, James C. "Jimmy" Morris; a brother-in-law, James F. "Buddy" Knight of Dyke; two sisters, Louise "Ruby" Dodson and her husband, Lloyd, of Madison and Mammie Morris of Shelby; and one foster sister, Winnie Tulloh of Stanardsville.
He also leaves to cherish his memory, a faithful and devoted niece, Linda Knight of Dyke; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and hunting buddies.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Evergreen Church of the Brethren with the Reverend C. C. Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911.
Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Linda I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I know you will miss him but try to keep in mind that where he is gone he is not suffering any longer.

While I did not know Mr. Shifflett well I remember "The Greene Mountain Man" beating the dogs out of the mountains with that big smile on his face. He was like a legend to me as a young boy. Thank you Ronnie and Tony for those times! My thoughts and prayers are with all your families.
