James Early

Tyler Sr. James Early Tyler Sr. of Charlottesville, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.

He was born on July 24, 1932, in Albemarle County, the son of the late Floyd Mason Tyler Sr. and Hattie Wood Tyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Myrtle Sprouce, Francis Herring, Bertha Hudson, Willie "Billie" Shifflett, Floyd "Flappy" Tyler Jr., Lawrence Tyler, Edward Tyler, and Carl Tyler.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley J. Tyler; son, David L. Tyler and his wife, Colleen; son, James E. Tyler Jr. "Buddy"; son, Charles "Mike" Tyler and his companion, Melissa Morris; and a daughter, Laurie Tyler and her partner, Renee Whiteside. Jim is also survived by his loving sister, Laura T. Hudson and her husband, Charlie; and a brother, Albert Tyler and his wife, Linda. In addition, Jimmy leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Chris, April, Amanda, Miles, Lacey and Adam; six great-grandchildren, Ashton, Cheyanne, Alex, McKenzie, Jaxon, Jaeda, and Sam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim served his country overseas during the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne. He was a truck driver for Wilson Trucking for 30 years and before retiring, he worked for Charlottesville News Agency and Charlottesville Press. He was an avid Virginia and Boston Red Sox fan and loved watching baseball while eating ice cream and Peanut M&M's.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made "In Memory of James E. Tyler" to Belmont Baptist Church, 830 Monticello Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2010, at the chapel of Teague Funeral Home by Pastor Jonathan King and his wife, Judy. Interment will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Teague Funeral Service.
