Dr. James R. Soukup

On Saturday, May 26, 2012, Dr. James R. Soukup departed this earthly life to enter into God's paradise. Dr. Soukup was a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Texas, Austin and State University of New York at Fredonia prior to relocating to Virginia. Dr. Soukup was the recipient of three Fulbright Awards, was a member of the Harriman, Tennessee, Rotary Club and was very active in the Habitat for Humanity in Harriman, Tennessee. He was also a published author and more than his academic accomplishments, he was a godly man who knew he was put on this earth for a purpose. Dr. Soukup was married for 61 years to Margaret B. Soukup. Survivors also include a son, James Soukup and daughter-in-law, Paula Soukup of Troy, Virginia; son, Jeffrey Soukup of Austin, Texas, and a daughter, Susan Wilson of Sugarland, Texas. Survivors also include grandchildren, Patrick Soukup and wife, Danielle, of Virginia, Samantha Soukup of Virginia, Andrew Wilson of Texas, and Erin Wilson of Texas. He is also survived by a sister, Marion Levin of Springfield, Illinois and her husband, Ron. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment to follow at Maplewood cemetery.
