James Hawkins Obituary

James Richard Hawkins

James Richard Hawkins, 77, of Stanardsville, died on Thursday, September 23, 2010, in La Plata, Maryland.

He was born on October 18, 1932, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Richard Hawkins and Mary Collins Hawkins and husband of the late Nancy Early Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by two sons, James T. and Melvin Hawkins.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Crawford of Stanardsville; and sons, Vernon E. Hawkins and his wife, Candy, of Stanardsville, and Alan J. Hawkins and his wife, Debra, of Charlottesville; a brother, Clarence Hawkins and his wife, Beatrice, of Keswick; a sister, Julia Steppe and her husband, William, of White Hall; daughters-in-law, Jeanette Hawkins of Stanardsville and Lorelie Hawkins of Ruckersville; special friends, Shelby Hawkins and Debra Graves of Stanardsville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Stanardsville conducted by Dr. Harrison Williams with interment at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Preddy Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.
