James Watts Calhoun

James Watts Calhoun, 85, of North Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010.

He was born on October 2, 1924, in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He was preceded in death by Frank Harrington Calhoun and Hannah Morris Calhoun; and his wife of 56 years, Nancy Potwin Calhoun.

He worked at Calhoun Chevrolet from 1950 until 1958. Jim and family moved to North Palm Beach in 1961, he worked 26 years at Pratt and Whitney as a Fuel Pump Engineer. He was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach.

The remaining family are as follows, Stephen and his wife, Teri, of Jupiter, Florida, Margaret C. McKinzie of Wilmington, North Carolina, Thomas of North Palm Beach, Florida, Carolin C. Hedrick and her husband, Donald, of Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, Lois C. Mercer and her husband, William, of Raliegh, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Niki Gourley and her husband, Steven, Sandi Blystone and her husband, Andy, Jennifer McKinzie, Tracey McKinzie, Timothy McKinzie, Brittany Hedrick, Sarah Hedrick, Amanda Mercer, and Heather Mercer; and great-grandchild, Elijah Gourley.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, Florida.

The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations in memory of Jim be given to First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach.

I was fortunate enough to have known Jim for many years during our careers at Pratt & Whitney. He was both a friend and an inspiration to many of the people who knew or worked with him. He will be fondly remembered by many.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.
