Joe Johnson Young Joe Young went home peacefully on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 12:36 a.m., at his home.
He was born on April 24, 1918, in Fluvanna County, the son of the late Ernest and Fannie Ross Young.
Mr. Young was a Steward's Mate First Class V6 in the United States Navy and a veteran of World War II. He was a retiree from Crenshaw Sawmill.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Margaret Bates Young of Palmyra; two sons, Joe Young of Pueblo, Colorado, and Jimmy and Sarah Young of Troy, Virginia; also six daughters, Avis Lee of Hopewell, Virginia, Elaine Young and Sam of Palmyra, Virginia, Marie Hawthorne of Hopewell, Virginia, Kathy Marshall and Preston of Ruckersville, Virginia, Sarah and Collie Johnson of Palmyra, Virginia, Donnie Vest and Barry of Palmyra, Virginia, and Julie D. Bates of Charlottesville. Joe has one sister, Elizabeth Adams and her husband, Herbert; three sisters-in-law,, Mary Felton, Eliza Young and Thelma Bates, all of Palmyra. He was dearly loved by 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. There are numerous nieces, nephews, many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010, at New Fork Baptist Church, 16 New Fork Church Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963, 434-842-2817.
The viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at Thomasson Fork Union Chapel.
