Joshua Smith Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Jul. 13 to Jul. 14, 2010.
Joshua Christopher Smith

Joshua Christopher Smith began his life's journey on November 9, 1983, in Dallas, Texas. He departed on his eternal journey on Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Diane Lynch Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio; his father, the Reverend Thomas M. Smith and stepmother, Phyllis Burley Smith of Palmyra, Virginia; one sister, Christina E. Smith and her daughter, Aleicia Renee Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio; one stepbrother, Marcus Dixon, his wife and son of San Antonio, Texas; grandmother, Mrs. Audrey L. Smith of Palmyra, Virginia; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Joshua was a jovial fellow who enjoyed the company of people. He never met a person that he could not be friends with. He had a hearty laugh, a disarming smile and a strong desire to please. He would take his shoes off upon entering a neighbor's house and immediately act as if he was at home.

Of late, Joshua was matriculating at Ohio Christian University where he was studying to enter the ministry. He had many conflicts and struggles in his life, but finally submitted himself to Jesus to do with him as He pleased.

He was very active in his community. He joined Zion Baptist Church in Chillicothe and became active in the Youth Ministry. He was gifted in his ability to reach young people and was a role model in the church. He was also into sports especially martial arts where he was an instructor. His contributions to the gym classes will be greatly missed.

Joshua now rests in the bosom of Jesus. His life, though brief, was filled with contradictions. On the one hand, he could be so happy and full of joy, and on the other, his mind could be pulled away in youthful doubts and fears. He was restless and moved about the country looking for a home of his own. He has now found eternal joy and bliss in the presence of God and of Jesus Christ and the Holy Angels.

Rest on Joshua, you've found your home and you have peace.

A viewing will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Thomasson's Funeral Home, Fork Union; the Wake will follow from 7 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at New Fork Baptist Church followed by the interment in the church cemetery.

Thomasson Fork Union Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

To: Rev. Smith and Family,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. It's been many years since I last saw Joshua as a little boy at Shiloh Baptist church. But words cannot describe the shock of the news, when I heard of his passing. My heart and prayers go out to you all during this time. Know that God is able and will see you through. Just keep leaning on Jesus for He is a Comforter. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted". Matthew 5:4. My mother Geraldine Brown also sends her condolence to you and your family. God Bless you all.
