Dear Valerie, I am sad to learn that Leon has died. David and I recall with gratitude your presence and generosity during your years of involvement in the Bayly. Now and then Leon would even greet me with cheerful humor at the supermarket. But most memorable was when he saw me with my nearly blind little old mother waiting for some X-ray service at UVa hospital. His imposing presence came over to us and his gentleness in meeting her and extending good wishes brought a smile to her face and gave her confidence to face the procedure ahead. And one evening, when David and I had to leave a dinner at your home because I was called to the hospital to tend to one of her last emergency visits, Leon kindly armed me with a calmer understanding of what was to come. One does not forget such caring. Willa
