Judith L. Morris Smith

Judith L. Morris Smith, 61, of Stanardsville, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010.

Judy was born July 31, 1948, in Charlottesville. She was the daughter of the late William Chapman Morris Jr. and Lorene Lawson Morris.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Jeffery Morris.

Judy leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Jim "Smitty" Smith; three sons, William Rodney Herndon and his wife, Kim, of Staunton, Chris Herndon and his wife, Kim, of Maryland, and Mark Herndon and his wife, Sandra, of North Garden; two daughters, Tracy Herndon of Waynesboro, and Karen Herndon and her husband, C.J., of Stanardsville; one stepson, Jason Smith of California; 15 grandchildren, Jessica, Savhanna, Chris Jr., Samantha, Brooke, Billy, Nikki, Ashley, Jordon, Brittany, Bethany, Brandon, Michelle, Misty and Holly; one great-grandson, Caleb; two aunts, Maxine Lawson Patterson and Hazel Snow; and many other loving family members and friends.

Judy's greatest joy in life was spending time with her friends, family and her companion, "Snoopy" (West Highland white terrier). She was known to her children as Mom and to her grandchildren as Nana. Her grandchildren brightened her day.

She was passionate about Christmas and enjoyed genealogy, crafts, gardening, reading and cooking. Judy touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Mitchell-Davis Family Cemetery with the Reverend Wendell Lamb officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to James R. Smith, 8873 Spotswood Trail, Stanardsville, VA 22973.

Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
