Julia Greis Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on Mar. 20, 2011.
Julia "Jewels" Marie Greis

Julia "Jewels" Marie Greis, 43, of Lyndhurst, and formerly of Alden, New York, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2011.

She was born on December 28, 1967, in Charleston, West Virginia. She graduated from Trocaire in Buffalo, New York, in 2000, and then relocated to the Shenandoah Valley. She began her career in nursing at Augusta Medical Center Emergency Room. She then went to Martha Jefferson Hospital and worked in the Emergency Room there as well. Lastly, she worked at the University of Virginia Medical Center as an Emergency Nurse, and was actively involved with the Regional Sexual Assault Nurses. "Jewels" lent her talents to any whose lives crossed hers. She lovingly helped those in need unselfishly, never seeking recognition. A "mother" to all, she truly lived for her own children. She loved walking on the beach and collecting shells, vegetable gardening, a good bargain; and for those who truly know Jewels, they will remember her love for neon colors and frogs.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Patricia Greis; and her maternal grandparents, Howard and Marie Clay "PawPaw" and "Granny".

She is survived by her husband, James William Greis Sr., whom she wed October 1, 1988.

Also left to cherish her memory are her children, Ashley Greis, Aprille Greis, James "Jimmy" Greis Jr., all of Lyndhurst; mother and stepfather, Betty L. and Charles D. Mock; brothers, Johnathan Scott and his wife, Linda, of Youngstown, New York, James Scott and his wife, Tonna of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, Joseph Scott and his wife, Denise, of Fort White, Florida, Jeffrey "Jay" Scott and his daughter, Kimberleigh, of Zachary, Louisiana; father-in-law, Donald F. Greis Sr. and his wife, Kathleen; her very special friend, Darbi Sullivan of Waynesboro; sister-in law, Susan Plorin and her husband, Mark, of Colleyville, Texas; brothers-in-law, Donald F. Greis Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Marilla, New York, and Richard Greis and his wife, Mary, of Alden, New York; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home by the Reverend Mike Winters.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service until 11:30 a.m. and other times at their residence. Interment will be private at Augusta Memorial Park. There will be no public viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Virginia Childrens Hospital, uvahealth.com/services/childrens-hospital; or to the Sexual Assault Resource Agency, www.sexualassaultresources.org.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.mcdowfuneralhomeinc.com.

My family will never forget you and all that you did for us... the "adopt a family" back at Christmas 2008 which made my children's Christmas so special (and that was a thank you to your daughters as well for all of their time shopping and wrapping gifts). Your bright colorful homemade scrubs... the compassion you had for your patients and staff... also the night that you coddled Christian (18 months) when he had a fever of 104.1 and was dehydrated and needed an IV... I couldn't watch my baby get stuck over and over, so you told me to take a walk and come back in 10 minutes... You wrapped him up and held him so sweetly while Christina looked for a vein... then you came outside and told me it was all done in less than 5 minutes... the day that my babysitter fell through and you offered to take the kids after working a 12 hour night shift so I could come in to work... There was so much that you did for us and so many others, and if you had not have left so soon, I can only imagine what you would have continued to do... What a tragic loss... You will truly be missed...

I will never forget you. You were an amazing person with so much energy and compassion. You made my nights at work enjoyable. I'll never forget when you got your frog tattoo, or the night we invented the PURPLE COW :) You had such love for your husband and children and that showed in all you did. Rest in peace and know that you will be greatly missed.
