Lynda "Lyn"

Clarke Stephenson Simmons

Lynda Clarke Stephenson Simmons, known to her friends and family as "Lyn," passed from this life peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

She was born in 1947, in Liverpool, England and adopted when she was four years old, because her mother was very sick. She emigrated to the United States in 1973 with her husband, and settled in Charlottesville. In 1996, she proudly became a United States citizen. In the late nineties, she returned to school and studied horticulture, which she loved, and worked in that field until she retired this past May.

Lyn had an adventurous and courageous spirit, a wonderfully dry sense of humor, and so many interests. She loved art and photography, drew and painted, and won prizes for her photos at local fairs. She loved animals, especially cats, and rehabilitated stray cats. She enjoyed playing the piano. She liked to cook, so much so that almost every Wednesday evening she experimented with completely new recipes, and invited friends for dinner. She kept a small garden and treated her guests to fresh herbs.

Above all she loved her friends and the spiritual path she chose to follow, which fit her unique spiritual perspective on life. She lived her life according to a precise set of spiritual principles, and she lived it well.

She is survived by her long-standing friend and companion, Doug Williams; her dear friend, Carole Anne Iacunato, who was just like a daughter to her; and Carole Anne's two sons, Gabe and Jacob, who were Lyn's "grandsons." She is survived by so many other friends it is impossible to list them here. They will all miss her very much.

She asked that her body be cremated and her ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or Meals on Wheels.

The memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville.
