Marie Scott Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on Nov. 3, 2009.

Marie Dearing Scott

Marie Dearing Scott, the daughter of the late Robert and Sarah Dearing was born on March 24, 1924. "Auntie" as she was lovingly called by family members, departed this life quietly and comfortably on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the Laurels Nursing facility of Charlottesville.

Marie received her education at the Albemarle Training School just outside of the City of Charlottesville. After marrying Joseph Scott, her surviving husband of 62 years, she moved to Charlottesville and worked as a receptionist for several doctors Fitzhugh, Humphries and Woodward.

Confirmed at Trinity Episcopal Church at Tenth and Grady Avenue site on December 5, 1943, she remained a devout member who was always ready to do her part which at times was over and beyond that which was expected. Marie loved to sing and she was an active and responsible member of the choir until her illness quietly caused her to retire. In addition, she was a dutiful member of the Altar Guild and also served tirelessly with Trinity Episcopal Church Women. During her retirement years, she volunteered regularly at the School House Thrift Shop. In addition to her church involvement she was also a member of the now defunct Toppers Social Club.

Marie was preceded in death by brothers, John and Robert Lee Dearing and sisters, Agnes Wicks and Ethel Edloe.

Surviving she leaves to mourn, a sister, Doris Lewis and her husband, Floyd; and two sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife, Bernadette, and their children, Nichol Hunter and daughter, Aliah of Spokane, Washington, Janina of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jessica Pierson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Jamal of Lake Monticello; and Paul Sr. and his wife, Linda, of Somerset, New Jersey, and their children, Paul Jr., David, Rachel Jenkins and her husband, Jamall and Rebekah and Sarah; a host of loving nephews, nieces; a devoted care giver, Katrina Renee Brown; caring friends, especially those at Trinity Episcopal Church; and the entire Unit #3 nursing and care giving staff at the Laurels nursing facility, who will all miss her quiet, mild manner.

Services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1042 Preston Avenue with the Reverend Sherry Hardwick Thomas, Celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at J.F. Bell Funeral Home.

Memorial on Marie's behalf may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.

Condolences may be made at jfbellfuneralhome.com.

J. F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
