Marie Southard Smith

Marie Southard Smith, 91, of Madison, died Monday, September 13, 2010, in Culpeper Regional Hospital.

She was born August 5, 1919, in Charlottesville, the daughter of the late George Clement Southard and Naomi Coates Southard; and wife of the late Hushel Lee Smith. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Claude Southard.

She is survived by one son, Ronald "Ronnie" Smith and his wife, Eilene, of Etlan; one brother, Charles Southard of Culpeper; one sister, Rachel Smith of Madison; four grandchildren, Angela Santinga and her husband, Fred, of Aylor, Farrah Payne and her husband, Richard, of Etlan, Matthew Smith and his wife, Shannon, of Richmond, and Daniel Smith of Culpeper; five great-grandchildren, Sheridan Santinga, Makenna Santinga, Ian Payne, Scarlett Smith and Shelby Smith.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday September 16, 2010, at Etlan Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Henry Daniel Aylor and the Reverend Terri Hoffman.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Preddy Funeral Home in Madison.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Etlan United Methodist Church 2939 Etlan Rd., Etlan, VA 22719.
