Booker T. Smith, Jr. was born April 29, 1950 to the union of Booker T. Sr. and Sarah Smith in

Mobile, AL. He was the oldest of eight siblings. A native and lifelong resident of Mobile,

Alabama, he lived a life dedicated to service, education and family. He departed this earthly life

Friday, December 12, 2025.

Booker T. graduated from Lillie B. Williamson High School in the Class of 1968. He earned a

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of South Alabama, a Master of Science in

Agency Counseling from Alabama State University, and pursued further studies in Elementary

Education.

For thirty years, he was employed as a Juvenile Probation Officer and Detention Counselor

with the State of Alabama. He was instrumental in writing, developing, and coordinating a

highly successful program that reduced the recidivism rate of gun offenses for adjudicated

delinquents referred to the program.

He also wrote, developed, and coordinated the Behavior Aide Program, which was designed to

maximize the child's potential, while minimizing behavioral conflicts. Those services were

contracted with the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

He was later employed by the Mobile Mental Health Center as an Outpatient Therapist in their

shelter for runaways, where he acquired over 2,000 hours of therapeutic contact. For two years,

he was employed as an Addiction Therapist in a private clinic and acquired over 2,000

additional hours of therapeutic experience.

He was also a gifted author and published poet. His works include Poetry for Life: Dreaming in

Color.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. and Sarah Smith; his grandson, Jamal

Stegner; and two brothers: Johnny Smith and Raymond "Peewee" Smith.

Booker T. leaves to cherish his lovely wife and best friend of forty-five years, Pat Smith; two

devoted sons: Jermaine (Tashika) Smith of Mobile, AL and Brandon (Stephanie) Smith of Fort

Worth, TX; grandchildren: Kytwoin S. Mallory and Camello M. Davis both of Mobile, AL and

one devoted granddaughter, Cadence Smith of Fort Worth, TX; six great-grandchildren:

Charvis Owens (Jasmine Shinn), Carmen E. Owens, Connar E. Owens, Kassidy Kidd, and

Jalston Fowler; two devoted brothers: Lawrence (Brenda) Smith of Mobile, AL, and Ray

(Chondra) Smith, of Jonesboro, GA; three devoted sisters: Pat (Eddie) Cox and Clarea (late

Leon) Bell both of Birmingham, AL, and Vernada Smith Irby of Mobile, AL; one devoted

uncle, Johnny Marshall of Chicago, IL; three Godchildren: Natasha Towner of Bessemer, AL,

Anthony French, and Angel French of Mobile, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, great and

great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
